Twentieth-Century Movements
Module code: EN7406
Twentieth-century society was radically changed by a series of artistic, cultural and political movements led by the working class, colonised and indigenous peoples, women and the LGBTQ community. As writers sought to represent the world in new ways, oppressed groups voiced their desire for freedom, equality and inclusion. This module examines the way that literature responds to a selection of movements that sought to transform concepts such as consciousness, race, nation, gender, sexuality and the natural world, assessing the impact and legacy of the struggle for social justice in a literary context.
