Advanced Electrical Machines
Module code: EG4211
This module covers the design, modelling, analysis, and simulation of advanced electrical machines applied in cutting-edge power generation, electrical transportation, and intelligent appliances. We will explore how to model, calculate, and predict the operation characteristics of machines under steady state and dynamic conditions, and when connected to power electronic drives. We will learn the fundamentals of electromagnetic torque production in a wide range of electrical machines, and will look at the construction, design and operation of induction machines, synchronous machines, and permanent magnet machines, while applying appropriate analysis for the evaluation of machine performance, including stator and rotor pole numbers and the relationship to the number of phase windings. You will also learn how to use industrial standard software platforms for modelling, simulation, and analysis of electrical machines.
