Flight Dynamics and Control
Module code: EG3421
This module examines how forces and moments influence an aircraft’s motion. Using first principles, we formulate the nonlinear equations that describe the aircraft’s dynamics, followed by their linearisation to simplify the analysis. Modal analysis is then applied to predict the natural modes of motion and to study of the stability and dynamic response to control inputs. A detailed analysis of both longitudinal and lateral dynamics and control is then carried out, examining how an aircraft behaves in pitch, roll, and yaw motions. Overall, this module provides the methods and understanding needed to design effective control strategies and enhance stability and performance in various flight conditions.
