Computational Biology
Module code: EG3064
A complex multi-scale biology is integral to the healthy functionality of the human body. It is important to understand how gene interactions mediate cellular behaviour, and how networks of cells regulate tissue and organ functionality. This understanding necessitates computational biology. In this module, you will apply computational approaches for biological systems, integrating advanced systems engineering principles to capture key properties relevant to real-world biomedical engineering problems. You will use basic probability and statistics to interpret results of computational biology analysis, implementing industry-standard simulation software to model complex physiological interactions. You will also identify opportunities for reducing animals in biomedical research through computational approaches, whilst considering engineering ethics, patient safety, governance, and proactive risk analysis.
