Aircraft Performance and Navigation

Module code: EG2421

This module explores the fundamental principles of aircraft performance & navigation and will provide you with the opportunity to apply these concepts in practical and/or simulated flight contexts. Key topics include the analysis of straight and level flight performance, covering lift, drag, stall conditions, endurance, range, and various airspeeds.

You’ll also examine critical flight phases such as take-off, climb, descent, landing, and turning flight. You’ll gain an understanding of aircraft stability, including longitudinal static stability, static margin, and the neutral point. In addition, the module covers aircraft navigation, which is essential for safety, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and facilitating global air operations. Another feature of the module is its focus on sustainable aviation and artificial intelligence to improve aircraft performance—key for balancing the growing demand for air travel with the need to reduce environmental impact.
