Analogue and Power Electronics
Module code: EG2211
This module introduces you to the key building blocks of electronic systems. It covers analogue electronics (how signals are processed and amplified) and power electronics (how energy is controlled and converted efficiently). You’ll learn both theory and hands-on skills that are essential for designing modern electronic devices. The module is split into two main parts:
1. Analogue Electronics (Weeks 1–6)
• How Op Amps (Operational Amplifiers) work and how to design with them.
• How to build and analyse analogue filters, like band-pass filters.
• How transistors (BJTs and FETs) are used to build amplifiers.
• How to design and bias amplifier circuits for real-world use.
2. Power Electronics (Weeks 7–11)
• Introduction to power semiconductor devices and how they switch and control power.
• Basics of DC/DC converters, both non-isolated and isolated types.
• How passive components (like inductors and capacitors) affect power circuits.
• Using simulation tools to test and model power electronic circuits.
