Aircraft Systems and Propulsion
Module code: EG2181
You’ll be introduced to the key systems that underpin the design and function of modern commercial aircraft, including propulsion, electrical power, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel, and environmental control. Each system is explored in terms of its role within the aircraft, its basic operating principles, and how it connects with other subsystems. You will also gain an introduction to propulsion technologies such as turbofans and turboprops, supported by thermodynamic analysis of their ideal cycles and propeller performance.
This module is delivered through topic-based lectures, supported by worked examples and technical diagrams. A laboratory component will reinforce your understanding through either simulation or hands-on investigation of key system behaviours. While the module focuses mainly on individual aircraft systems, you will also begin to develop awareness of system interactions, trade-offs, and real-world constraints, providing a foundation for more advanced systems thinking as your degree progresses.
