Materials and Structures
Module code: EG2111
This module introduces the behaviour of engineering materials and structures, helping you to understand how components are designed to resist failure under static loads. You’ll learn how to calculate stresses in different types of structures and how material properties influence strength, stiffness, durability and performance.
This includes exploring different groups of engineering materials and learning how to select suitable materials for a range of engineering applications. Material choice is considered not only in terms of technical performance, but also environmental impact and sustainability, shaping the wider design process.
Through analysis, modelling and design activities, you will apply engineering theory to practical materials and structures problems, developing the ability to evaluate performance and determine critical material properties.
