Integrated Engineering Design

Module code: EG2006

This module gives you the opportunity to work in multidisciplinary teams to design, manufacture and test an engineering solution to a real-world design challenge. Through this hands-on project, you will develop the practical, technical and professional skills needed to tackle complex engineering problems and deliver effective engineering solutions.

Modern engineering projects rely on collaboration between specialists from different disciplines. Your Design Team will include students from a range of engineering courses, reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of contemporary engineering practice. Working together, you will progress through the engineering design process, from concept development and analysis through to manufacture, testing and evaluation.

Projects may vary from year to year, providing new and exciting challenges. Previous projects have included stair-climbing robots, scale-model hovercraft and small-scale wind turbines. Throughout the project, teams are supported by academic staff, final-year MEng student mentors and, where appropriate, external industry experts.

The module culminates in a design competition where teams showcase and test their solutions against one another. This provides an exciting opportunity to demonstrate your engineering skills, learn from other teams, and experience the creativity, teamwork and friendly competition that are central to engineering design.
