Research Methods and Dissertation

Module code: EC7064

This module provides you with the opportunity to undertake an independent research project in an area of business analytics that matches your interests and career aspirations. Drawing on the knowledge and skills developed throughout the MSc Business Analytics programme, you will learn how to formulate and refine a research question, critically evaluate academic and professional literature, and design an appropriate analytical approach to address a contemporary business problem.

You will develop advanced research skills, including literature review techniques, research design, data management and ethical research practice. The module also introduces you to the principles of conducting rigorous empirical research and selecting appropriate analytical methods to investigate business questions using real-world data.

Working under the guidance of an academic supervisor, you will apply business analytics and machine learning techniques to secondary datasets, interpret and evaluate your findings, and communicate evidence-based insights in a substantial dissertation. Through this process, you will strengthen your ability to analyse complex data, solve business problems, critically assess evidence, and present professional research findings.

The dissertation enables you to demonstrate the knowledge, analytical capabilities and independent thinking expected of a business analytics professional, while allowing you to specialise in a topic area of particular academic or professional interest.
