This module equips you with the practical and analytical skills needed to work with large and complex datasets in modern organisations. Focusing on machine learning, data visualisation and computational data analysis, the module develops your ability to transform raw data into meaningful insights and communicate findings effectively to technical and non-technical audiences. The module emphasises both the application of cutting-edge analytical tools and the critical evaluation of their strengths and limitations.

You will gain hands-on experience using Python and related data analysis tools to manage, process and visualise data. Topics include data preparation and pre processing, exploratory data analysis, effective data visualisation, clustering techniques, dimensionality reduction, classification methods and modern machine learning approaches for structured, textual and sequential data. The module also introduces advanced topics such as natural language processing, ensemble methods and applications of artificial intelligence in business and economic analysis.

Throughout the module, you will learn how to apply machine learning techniques to real-world datasets and communicate results through clear and informative visualisations. Practical computer classes provide opportunities to develop coding skills, implement analytical models and evaluate their performance in a range of applied settings. Particular emphasis is placed on reproducibility, efficient data processing and the responsible use of modern analytical technologies, including generative AI.
