Big Data and People Analytics
Module code: MN3526
In this module you will explore how organisations use data to make better decisions about their people. As organisations collect increasing amounts of workforce information, HR professionals are expected to move beyond intuition and use evidence to understand workplace challenges, improve organisational performance and support effective decision-making.
Working with realistic organisational datasets, you will develop practical skills in organising, analysing and interpreting HR data from a variety of sources. You will learn how to identify patterns and trends, evaluate the quality and reliability of data, and communicate evidence-based insights that support people management decisions. The module also examines the ethical responsibilities associated with people analytics, including issues of bias, fairness, privacy and the responsible use of employee data.
Through practical activities based on a large simulated organisation, you will gain experience of the types of analytical challenges faced by HR professionals in contemporary organisations. By the end of the module, you will have developed the confidence to work with organisational data, critically evaluate evidence and use people analytics to inform strategic HR decisions.
