Research Methods
Module code: MN3523
In this module you will develop the knowledge and skills needed to locate, evaluate and synthesise research evidence. In an age where organisations are surrounded by data, reports and competing claims, the ability to identify reliable evidence and draw well-supported conclusions is an essential skill for HR professionals and managers. This module will help you to understand how research is designed, conducted and interpreted, enabling you to analyse evidence critically and use it to investigate contemporary HR issues.
You will explore the practical, ethical and theoretical foundations of social science research, examining both qualitative and quantitative approaches to investigating human resource management. You will learn how to evaluate published research critically, assess the strengths and limitations of different research designs, and consider the ethical responsibilities involved in conducting research with people and organisations.
The module also prepares you for your final-year dissertation by guiding you through the process of developing your own research proposal. Through a series of linked portfolio activities, you will refine your research ideas, explore the relevant literature, synthesise evidence from a range of academic and professional sources, and design a feasible research project, providing a strong foundation for your independent research.
