In this module you will explore how labour markets shape the opportunities available to workers and organisations, and examine the economic, social and political forces that influence employment around the world. You will investigate how changing technologies, demographic trends, education systems, government policies and globalisation affect the demand for skills, the availability of work and the experience of employment.

Drawing on contemporary research and international case studies, you will examine a range of current labour market issues, including the platform economy, skills shortages, workforce mobility, global value chains and debates surrounding the future of work. You will explore how labour markets differ across countries and consider the role of governments, employers, trade unions and other institutions in shaping employment outcomes.

Throughout the module, you will develop the knowledge and analytical skills to evaluate labour market trends and their implications for organisations, employees and wider society. By the end of the module, you will have a deeper understanding of the forces driving change in labour markets and the challenges these create for people management and organisational decision-making.
