In this module you will explore how organisations are structured, managed and developed, and examine the relationship between management, organisational culture and business strategy. You will investigate how management practices have evolved over time and consider the ways in which organisations respond to changing economic, social and technological environments.

Drawing on key ideas from organisational and management theory, you will examine the role of managers in shaping organisational performance while recognising the opportunities and constraints created by organisational structures, cultures and external influences. You will also explore contemporary approaches to management development and consider how organisations identify, support and develop effective managers.

Through the study of theory, research and practical examples, you will develop the skills to analyse organisational practice, evaluate different approaches to management, and understand the wider organisational context within which people management takes place. By the end of the module, you will have a deeper appreciation of how organisations function and the contribution that effective management makes to organisational success.
