HRM in Practice

Module code: MN2511

In this module you will develop your understanding of HRM in practice and explore the contribution that People Professionals make to organisational success. You will examine how HR strategies support business objectives and consider the influence of both the internal and external labour market on organisational decision making. Throughout the module, you will be encouraged to think critically about the role of HR and the value it creates for organisations, employees and wider society.

You will explore the key stages of the employment relationship, from attracting and selecting the right people through to retaining talent and supporting long-term organisational performance. Alongside these topics, you will examine the factors that influence employee turnover, consider different approaches to talent management, and investigate how organisations seek to build an engaged and sustainable workforce.

The module also introduces the legal and social context of employment by exploring the distinctive nature of the employment relationship and the balance between individual and collective rights at work. Throughout the module you will evaluate contemporary HR theories, research and professional practice, using real workplace examples to reflect on how theory can inform effective people management and your own professional development.
