In this module you will explore the issues of critical thinking, academic integrity, and scholarly communication within higher education. You will examine how knowledge is constructed and debated in academic contexts. The importance of evidence-based argument is emphasised and academic professionalism is a central theme.
You will be guided through the theories and concepts associated with research skills, structured argumentation, and Harvard referencing. You will learn how to evaluate sources critically and synthesis literature effectively and you will be introduced to techniques for developing coherent essays and reports. Attention is given to clarity, structure, and analytical depth.
The module will help you to develop confidence in academic writing and critical analysis as well as strengthen your ability to construct persuasive, well-supported arguments. Practical workshops will focus on drafting, editing and improving academic writing style and ethical scholarship and avoidance of plagiarism are reinforced.
You will consider how academic skills transfer to professional contexts and be able to reflect on feedback and develop strategies for continuous improvement. This module supports your progression throughout the course and by completion you will be equipped with the foundational skills needed for academic and professional success.
