Introduction to Modern Languages Studies

This module provides our students with foundational knowledge of historical, social, political and cultural moments and movements that have been formative to the shape of the globalised world we now inhabit. It starts with exploring the role of European colonialism in spreading the Italian, French and Spanish languages, and their related cultures and ideologies, around the globe, and progresses to examine contemporary issues of transnationalism, transculturation, and environmental futures, with the aim of supporting you to understand the expansive relevance of Modern Languages to navigating the world we live in.
