International Strategy

International Strategy explores the issues of strategic decision-making across borders in complex and competitive global markets.  You will examine how firms achieve and sustain competitive advantage internationally.  The module focuses on the strategic challenges of global expansion.  Attention is given to risk, uncertainty, and cross-border coordination.

The module guides you through the theories and concepts associated with industry analysis, resource-based perspectives, global integration, and localisation strategies.  You will analyse entry modes such as exporting, joint ventures, and foreign direct investment.  Strategic frameworks are applied to multinational enterprises.  The role of dynamic capabilities in international success is explored.

You will evaluate strategic options available to organisations operating in diverse markets.  You will develop critical thinking skills to assess global competitiveness and the use of case studies encourage application of theory to contemporary international business challenges.  

In the module you will consider how geopolitical risk, cultural diversity, and institutional variation shape strategic choices.  You will explore strategic alliances, mergers and global value creation.  Ethical and sustainability dimensions of international strategy are discussed.  By the end of the module you will understand how global firms navigate complexity to achieve long-term performance.
