Business Law

Module code: LW1002

Law impacts every stage of the life of a business, how you set it up, how it runs its operations and close it down.  In this module you will explore different business models and the implications of legal liability for the business itself, and the operational decisions made its owners and managers.  You will also learn how best to communicate and ensure compliance with the requirements derived from the law in England and Wales to those involved in business operations.

The module will enable students to explore and negotiate both legal and practical solutions to common business problems and develop the skills needed for the effective management of business operations whether as a lawyer, manager or business owner.

On successful completion of the module you will be able to:

  • Explain the legal framework and practical implications of operating a business in England and Wales through differing business models.
  • Identify the key regulatory duties for those who control a business which operates in England and Wales.
  • Apply regulatory principles to common business situations, demonstrating how compliance obligations affect operations.
  • Demonstrate an ability to communicate legal reasoning effectively using appropriate terminology in both oral and written formats.
