Rigid Body and Structural Dynamics

Module code: EG3125

This module develops the principles used to analyse and predict the motion and dynamic response of engineering systems, with application to aerospace structures and mechanical components. You will study the behaviour of rigid bodies under the action of forces and moments, including three-dimensional motion, vibration of multi-degree-of-freedom systems, and the dynamic response of structures. The module also introduces advanced analytical methods such as Lagrangian dynamics and provides an introduction to structural elasticity and finite element methods.

These concepts are applied to the modelling and analysis of real engineering systems, enabling you to understand how forces influence motion, stability, and structural performance in aerospace applications. By the end of the module, you’ll be able to formulate and solve dynamic models of mechanical systems, interpret their physical behaviour, and apply analytical and computational methods to predict performance and structural response.
