Applied Engineering Thermodynamics

Module code: EG2122

This specialist module will develop your understanding of heat engines, refrigeration and heat pump systems. You will study how different thermodynamic systems operate and learn how engineers analyse their performance for transport, industrial and energy applications.

You will explore gas, vapour and combined thermodynamic cycles, including Otto, Diesel and Rankine cycles, and learn how to assess them using energy and exergy analysis.

Alongside technical performance, you will consider the wider implications of these systems, including efficiency, environmental impact and sustainability. This will help you to understand how engineers select and evaluate power and cooling technologies for practical applications.
