Awareness of the workings of the major organs and organ systems, and an understanding of the influence of basic pathological conditions, are essential for designing effective biomedical engineering solutions, evaluating patient safety considerations through a framework of systematic risk analysis, and practicing effective communication with clinicians and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
