Media, Power and the Everyday
Module code: MS2019
In taking this module, you will be able to identify and describe how media power, ideology, influence and audience activity are conceptualised across different theoretical approaches. You will be able to explain how major theories of the mass media are grounded in broader theories of society and attend in varying ways to the interconnected “moments” of production, text and reception.
You will also develop the capacity to critically evaluate the contribution of key theoretical traditions to the study of mass media, and to apply these approaches—and their associated concepts—to make sense of both personal and professional expectations of media’s role in society.
