Fundamental Topics in Human Biology and Behaviour

Module code: BS0016

This module introduces core principles of Human Biology, beginning with the structure and function of the skeletal system and bone tissue. It then examines muscle biology and how muscles generate movement, followed by an exploration of the nervous system, including brain organisation and function. The module concludes with neurobiology, covering neurotransmission and the mechanisms of neuroplasticity that underpin human behaviour. Students gain a foundational understanding of how cells, tissues and systems interact to support human activity.

Topics include

  • Skeletal system and bone biology
  • Muscle physiology and neuromuscular junction
  • Nervous system and brain structure
  • Neurotransmitters and human behaviour
