Global Justice and Human Rights
Module code: PL3118
The concept of human rights has been around since the times of Ancient Egypt, but the horrors of the Second World War and the Holocaust saw it codified into a movement. This led to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights being adopted by the then-new United Nations in 1948. This module will look at the principles, theory and practice behind human rights and the associated concept of global justice.
By the end of the module, you will be able to explain key concepts and challenges to the theory and practice of universal human rights and/or global justice. You'll able to apply these to contemporary politics, and also analyse texts, arguments and issues relevant to topics you'll look at. You'll also look forward, evaluating the prospects for implementing global justice and/or universal human rights.
