Foreign Policy Analysis

The foreign policy of a state is one of the most vital aspects of its administration and governance. This module will introduce you to the analysis of a state's relationship with the outside world.

You'll engage with academic analysis and literature surrounding foreign policy, and the themes and controversies posed by these. You'll critique different theoretical approaches, their usefulness in understanding contemporary world politics and their application to the strategies of specific states on a particular issue. In addition, you'll explore the pressures and constraints faced by leaders, civil servants and diplomats when crafting a state's foreign policy.
