International Security Studies

Module code: PL2018

How do political actors ensure the safety and security of those who they are responsible for? How do nations protect themselves from violence? What is behind a nation or entity's decision to go to war? The study of international security tries to answer those questions amongst others, and this module will introduce you to its key concepts.

You'll look at theoretical and 'critical' approaches to international and human security. You'll also look at the end of the Cold War, how that has changed the way we look at security, and themes and issues that have emerged since, such as climate change, the changing role of the state, liberty and new forms of terrorism.
