Experimental Physics 2
Module code: PA2900
'Experimental physics 2’ builds on your laboratory physics studied during first year, and enhances your experimental and problem solving abilities necessary across areas of physical sciences. These are an important part of the Institute of Physics “core of physics” material relating to experimental physics.
Alongside lectures, you will take part in supervised laboratory sessions – where you will perform a range of practical experiments – and workshop classes for electronics and scientific computing. To assist your laboratory studies you will receive specifically-developed laboratory scripts for the various activities. You will also study, through lectures and practical computing workshops, the scientific method and the basic tools for handling scientific data. This module is centred on developing your data handling and computing expertise and report writing skills that are an essential pre-requisite to year 3 projects.
Topics covered
- Core physics practicals
- Core group research projects
- Scientific Inference and computing
