Media Research in Practice
Module code: MS2016
This module will introduce you to the key principles of research design, data collection and analysis. Through lectures, seminars and practical workshops that will give you hands-on experience of methodological techniques and challenges, the module will introduce you to different approaches to empirical research and explore the significance of these for the field of media and communication research.
A key focus of the module is the acquisition of critical skills in respect of the interrogation and evaluation of research methods and the ability to design and propose research in writing. As part of this, you'll be required to engage with the methodological workings of real examples of media research, thus learning how to engage with literature from a methodological perspective.
In this way, the module will provide you with a strong foundation for your dissertation project in your final year, giving you the confidence to design your own research project, and interrogate the work of others in doing so.
