Year 2 Language Project
Module code: ML2013
This module will introduce you to a range of topics related to the broad field of linguistics using the languages we learn in the department as case studies. The module is divided into two main parts; in the first part, we will focus on analysing the internal features of the language, including: phonetics and phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics. In the second part, we will consider the external factors that influence language, examining the topics of social variation, language change and processes of standardisation, geographical variation, language and gender, and multilingualism and language policy today. The module is assessed via a poster presentation and a coursework essay.
