Biochemical Approaches to Therapeutic Development

This module will provide a comprehensive introduction to the application of biochemistry to medical problems. We will examine selected techniques used in the diagnosis and treatment of human disease and consider the potential impact of genomics on the diagnosis and treatment of disease. This module will give an overview of the process involved in the generation of a pharmaceutical product, from molecular aspects of drug design through to therapeutic protein production. By critically engaging in the potential impact of medical biochemistry you will gain an appreciation of the key social and ethical issues related to current development in biomedicine.
