International Sales Law
Module code: LW7150
International sales of goods constitute an enormous volume of world trade, and are responsible for the movement of goods around the world. The practical economic importance of international sales is reflected in the attention paid to legal systems of international sales law. This module will consider the main issues that arise in international sales transactions, from the dual perspective of the English sale of goods law and the United Nations Convention on the International Sale of Goods (CISG). The CISG has been ratified by 80 countries (as of February 2014) covering ¾ of the world’s trade. The UK is not a member, but provides another major source of law for international sales transactions -English sales law. Comparing the approaches of both systems will provide you with an in-depth understanding of the problems faced by traders and lawyers. In addition, there is also consideration of the provisions of the Uniform Commercial Code, the primary commercial legislation of the United States of America.
