History of Italian Cinema

This module offers an introduction to the history of Italian cinema throughout the 20th century. You will explore the work of selected directors and key texts, and will learn to place them in their historical context. We will discuss a number of cinematic genres and key issues that shape Italian cinema and society. At the end of this module you will be able to demonstrate an awareness of the development of Italian cinema from its origin to the contemporary period and the relationship between cinematic representations, social and historical change. You will also develop the necessary analytical skills to analyse cinematic works and texts and place them in their historical and cultural context.
