Reading and Writing Climate Change Fiction

Climate change is arguably the most important issue in the world today. This module combines a practical prose-fiction-writing workshop with developing a broad understanding of climate change through reading texts in the new category of “climate change fiction”, sometimes called “cli-fi”. You will watch documentaries, read works on the subject and analyse the best contemporary climate change fiction, both from a literary critical perspective and from that of a writer learning the craft. You will produce draft creative work that you workshop for peer and tutor critique. The assessment involves writing both a literary critical essay on climate change fiction and an original work of “cli-fi”.
