Advanced Solid Mechanics

This module will give you the knowledge and skills to apply advanced Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to calculate the stresses in complex structures, and predict whether these structures will fail under loads they experience in service. The module extends the detail covered in earlier years of the course using more advanced theories of failure, thus improving design skills. It will also teach you how FEA methods may develop in the future to improve predictions – these new approaches will allow structures that are lighter and safer.
