Materials Processing

This is a specialist Mechanical Engineering module (also available to General Engineering students) which goes into more depth on materials and their processing and manufacturing routes. You'll be able to design appropriate heat treatments for metals to improve their strength. All the most important classes of materials will be covered, with a particular focus on the processing and heat treatment of steels, arguably the most important family of metals for Mechanical engineers.

As part of this module there will be an industrial visit or case study where you'll learn how the processing of materials can change their properties, and how they look under powerful microscopes.
