Development Economics

Module code: EC3061

Why are there so substantial differences in the standards of living between countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and countries in Western Europe or North America?  Why are differences in the world distribution of income so persistent historically?  Why have some developing countries experienced rapid economic growth while other developing countries remained stagnant in terms of economic performance.

These are some of the questions addressed in this module.  Motivated by empirical evidence and guided by relevant economic theories, the module identifies and analyses the economic, demographic and structural changes that occur in the process of development.
