Using Psychology in Secure Settings

In this module you will learn about the range and nature of secure settings in which Forensic Psychologists may work, and you will gain an understanding of the origins and development of the use of Forensic Psychology within secure settings (for example, by exploring the transition from ‘Nothing works’ to ‘What works’). Throughout the module you will have the opportunity to engage with theories and research that apply to the rehabilitation of offenders (for example, by exploring models of working with offenders). You will also learn about the evolution of and contemporary offending behaviour programmes for different types of offenders; the factors that affect rehabilitative processes (for example, treatment readiness and motivation); risk assessments for different types of offenders; and the factors that affect the rehabilitative process.
