Victims of Crime

Module code: CR1006 (double module)

This module seeks to address a number of critical questions including: who are victims of crime? How did the study of victims emerge? What is the nature, extent and impact of victimisation? How does the media influence public perceptions of victims and victimisation? How is victimisation responded to?

This module will explore the variety of ways in which people can be affected by crime, from incidents of anti-social behaviour and theft, to experiences of acid attacks, domestic violence, hate crime and human trafficking. You'll discover the ways in which criminal justice agencies and other organisations respond to victimisation, and consider how effective they are in supporting victims to achieve justice, recovery and reconciliation. This module adopts a historical, theoretical, methodological and policy perspective to ensure that you gain a comprehensive understanding of victims and victimisation.
