Latent Fingerprint Analysis

This module will develop your understanding of the detection, visualisation and interpretation of latent fingerprints across diverse surfaces. You will examine enhancement chemistries including nanoparticles, surface corrosion reactions, immunoassays and electrochemical methods, alongside delivery modes and imaging techniques that maximise contrast and evidential value. You will also study potential sources of bias in fingerprint analysis and ways to mitigate them, and learn research methodologies for developing and validating new visualisation techniques. Learning activities include directed sessions, independent research and interviews with experts. Assessment is through written assignments and participation in discussion groups.
