Physiology of Excitable Cells
Module code: BS2015
Neuroscience is an integrative and evolutionary discipline that encompasses the cellular and molecular biology, physiology and pharmacology, and development of the nervous system. This module will provide an integrated description of brain function, from molecular aspects of synaptic transmission and plasticity to higher cognitive function that regulates behaviour. We will examine the structure, organization and function of the nervous system and its components by investigating the core principles of ion channel function, membrane excitability and synaptic transmission. You will broaden your understanding of the molecular basis of neuronal function including synaptic anatomy and physiology. This module will also explore signal transduction related to vision to provide you with an overview of how the nervous system adapts or mal-adjusts in response to external factors.
