The Cell: An Introduction to Cell Biology and Microbiology

This module provides an overview of key concepts concerning ‘The Cell’ by introducing you to key principles in microbiology and cell biology. This module will familiarise you with the nature and relatedness of known life on earth, including an introduction to the structures within a cell. We will consider the form and function of microbial cells and the techniques used to study microorganisms (including viruses). This module will encourage you to discuss the role of microorganisms in disease, the biosphere and in biotechnology and consider the importance of microbiology within economic, ecosystem and health sustainability issues.
