Fieldschool (UoL)

Fieldwork is one of the most fundamental, exciting, and rewarding parts of our discipline. We want to support you in experiencing that too. This module consists of one week’s practical work on a current research project, plus linked readings and assessment. The School runs dedicated fieldschools in and around Leicester taught by archaeologists in the School and in partnership with our in-house archaeological commercial archaeology company, the University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS).
Learning material for this module includes live and recorded fieldwork briefings, guided readings, and hands-on training in the field. By the end of the module you will have developed an understanding of a range of professional archaeological skills, and gained experience working independently and as part of a team. You will also improve your research and academic skills along the way. In this module you will complete two different assessments: a portfolio reporting and reflecting on your field experience, and a related essay.

If you are a BA archaeology student and you would rather undertake fieldwork closer to home or on an archaeological project of your choice you can take AR2603 instead (subject to prior approval).
