Nurture and infant feeding
The University of Leicester is committed to providing a UNICEF Baby Friendly aligned curriculum to our MSci Midwifery with Leadership students. We have already gained our Certificate of Commitment with the intention of full accreditation once our first cohort of students graduate in the summer of 2022.
Our ethos therefore reflects WHO/UNICEF guidance including the International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes (1981), the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding (1989, revised 2018) and the BFI standards for practice and theory (2018).
At the heart of our work is the mother and baby as a unique pairing within a family unit (however that is defined). A key role of the midwife and therefore student learning is the facilitation of parents to become the best possible carers for their baby.
