EMBER Industry Symposium
LPMI Presents: EMBER Industry Symposium 2017
1 November 2017 from 9.30pm to 3.30pm
Location: College Court Conference Centre, Leicester, LE2 3UF
The symposium provided a forum for academics, practitioners from industry, and clinicians involved in breathomics and respiratory research to explore ideas and understand opportunities to use and develop breathomics as a non-invasive diagnostic tool. The event included presentations and workshops from EMBER academics and clinicians as well as key guest speakers from our industry partners.
EMBER is developing novel breath-based systems for molecular pathology. Exhaled breath contains volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that reflect biological processes occurring within the lung and, via the vena cava, more distant organs. Analysis of VOCs in breath provides rapid, at-patient and in-clinic non-invasive approaches for diagnosis, phenotyping and stratifying patients. Importantly the range of clinical conditions is large and includes respiratory infections, cancers, respiratory disease such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and cardiovascular disorders such as heart failure.
