Justice for Windrush Project
Our Justice for Windrush project helps members of the Windrush generation, and their families get the compensation they deserve. Many people affected by the Windrush scandal face complex forms and processes that feel overwhelming.
We offer a free advice service to support claimants navigate the Windrush Compensation Scheme. The scheme compensates individuals who suffered losses or difficulties because they were unable to demonstrate their lawful right to be in the UK.
Apply for compensation
You can apply if you meet both parts A and B below:
Part A
Your arrival in the UK meets one of the following criteria:
- You, your parent or grandparent came from a commonwealth country to the UK before 1 January 1973.
Or - You came to the UK from any country before 31 December 1988 and are now settled here.
Part B
You suffered losses because you could not prove your lawful right to be in the UK.
The type of losses you can claim (if caused by your inability to show you were entitled to be in the UK) include:
- Fees and Legal costs.
- Detention, removal, deportation and return.
- Loss of access to employment or benefits.
- Inability to access services: housing, health, education, driving licences and banking
- Homelessness or living costs.
- Impact on life (for example, separation from family, inability to travel abroad to attend significant family occasions).
