Exams and certificates

Languages at Leicester offers many courses in 19 languages – each course offers its own assessments which test your reading, writing, listening, and speaking ability. These assessments are voluntary and allow you to mark your progress and depending on how well you do you will be issued with a Languages at Leicester Certificate of Proficiency with a grade of pass, merit or distinction.

However, if you are looking for a qualification that is externally verified by an independent awarding body and recognised then we are a centre for the following internationally recognised qualifications:

Japanese Language Proficiency Test 

The Japanese-Language Proficiency Test or JLPT, is a standardized criterion-referenced test to evaluate and certify Japanese language proficiency for non-native speakers, covering language knowledge, reading ability, and listening ability.

The Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) has been offered by the Japan Foundation and Japan Educational Exchanges and Services since 1984 as a reliable means of evaluating and certifying the Japanese proficiency of non-native speakers. JLPT is the largest-scale Japanese-language test in the world. 

The JLPT has five levels:

  • N1
  • N2
  • N3
  • N4
  • N5

The easiest level is N5 and the most difficult level is N1. There are two test dates throughout the year.

British Sign Language exams

Languages at Leicester offers nationally recognised qualifications in British Sign Language through the awarding body Signature for Level 1, 2 and 3.

DELE exams

DELE Spanish Diplomas are the official titles certifying the learner with a level of competence and mastery of the Spanish language, granted by Spain's Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport. The Instituto Cervantes organises examination sessions, while the Universidad de Salamanca in Spain designs the exams and oversees corrections and the final evaluation of all exams.
