Application
Financial support
The School and University sometimes offer funded PhD positions. These are of two kinds: GTAs (Graduate Teaching Assistant) and studentships. Such funded PhD positions are normally advertised on the School and University sites as well as websites such as Find a PhD
- Find out information about PhD studentships and loans.
- View scholarship and funding opportunities in the College of Science and Engineering
Informal Advice
Besides a solid background and a strong motivation it is useful to have spent some thoughts on the following before applying:
- your research topic
- your future supervisor
- your financial support
The topic you propose should fit within the research themes of the School; it should lie within the research interests of your proposed supervisor. Supervisors may list some potential PhD projects on their pages. It may help your application if you explain briefly why you are interested in your proposed area of research, and what in your background makes you well prepared for this topic.
You are most welcome to contact us, and we would encourage you to discuss your research plan with your potential supervisor before applying.
