Continuing Professional Development (CPD) short courses

Geology has developed a number of online short courses for the global mining industry. Initially, they were developed for Chile with funding from the UK Government's Chile Prosperity Fund, but they are now available to anyone with an involvement or interest in mining.

Mining and Quarrying
CPD, up to three months
This is for you if… you are currently working, or intend to work, in the mining or quarrying industries, and want to increase your professional knowledge. The courses are approved by the Geological Society of London and the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining.

We offer five Mining and Quarrying courses (listed below) which are designed to contribute to your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and are endorsed by the Geological Society of London and approved as Professional Development by the IOM3.

  • Blasting
  • Effective Surface Mine Design
  • Slope and Face Stability - what the managers need to know
  • Introduction to Surface Mining Methods

Postgraduate Certificate in Quarry Management and Operations

This one-year course is a part-time, blended-learning training programme run in collaboration with LafargeHolcim, now the world's largest construction materials company. It is therefore only available to employees of that company, but the programme can be duplicated in collaboration with other companies.
